VoIP Bandwidth & Concurrent Call Capacity Calculator
Calculate IP voice payload packetization overheads across audio codecs (G.711u/a, G.729, Opus, G.722, iLBC). Factor in Ethernet, IP/UDP/RTP, GRE, L2TP, and MPLS header encapsulations.
VoIP Bandwidth & Capacity Calculator
Calculate voice payload packetization, header encapsulation overheads, and network bandwidth requirements. Evaluate call capacity limits against standard internet links.
Link Capacity & Max Voice Channels
Maximum concurrent unidirectional voice channels supported across standard link capacities based on the calculated maximum bandwidth configuration (including link headers).

Understanding VoIP Packetization & Encapsulation
Voice over IP converts analog voice audio into digital PCM samples encapsulated within Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP / RFC 3550), UDP, and IP packets.
Header Overhead Breakdown
- IP Header: 20 bytes (IPv4) or 40 bytes (IPv6).
- UDP Header: 8 bytes.
- RTP Header: 12 bytes.
- Ethernet Frame: 18 bytes (14-byte Ethernet II header + 4-byte CRC).
- Total Overhead: 58 bytes (IPv4) per packet. At 20ms packetization (50 packets/sec), overhead adds 23.2 kbps per stream.
